Precor Premium Series 9.31 Treadmill Review
My wife and I are very happy with this treadmill. It is sturdy, very heavy, and provides for a comfortable running experience. It was difficult deciding between Precor treadmills, but I am glad I opted for the 9.31 with the Footplant Technology and Ground Effects Technology. The cushioning adjusts perfectly for my wife and myself. The treadmill arrived by freight one week from the date I purchased it online using free super saver shipping. Assembly was fast and simple using the provided allen wrenches. This treadmill feels as sturdy and as comfortable as the Precor and Life Fitness machines at the gym. The motor is very quiet and the machine does not rattle or shake while running.

Precor 9.33 Premium Series Treadmill Review
This is an excellent exercise option. I recommend it. You may not need all the options on this one. In fact, I ust use the HRC (heart rate) or the weight loss sessions. As I get stronger, I might want to do others, but those are flexible enough to do anything I should ever want to do, so a basic machine probably would have been enough.

Helper Monkey (SoCal, USA)The Iron Gym is a great chin-up bar; it works exactly as advertised. It is very easy to assemble, use, and attach and remove from a doorway. It seems extremely stable, and I have no problem believing it could support the claimed 300 lbs.
Some things to keep in mind:
As other reviewers have mentioned, it sits a little too low to be effective for dips, but putting your feet on a low stool helps with that problem.
Apparently (according to the ad copy) the ab straps are now included in the box--they were not included when I ordered mine from Amazon, and shipping is an additional eight dollars for the straps. Bummer.
Assembly is pretty straightforward, but you want to make sure everything is tightened down, or the bar will feel unsteady, especially when used for push-ups and dips. But be careful not to over-tighten the bolts that go through the plastic brace--it looks like it would be fairly easy to 'strip' the unreinforced square bolt holes in the plastic brace.
When assembled, the total cross bar length is just a hair under 37" wide. In addition, a plainly visible metal safety clip has to be installed (by hand, no screws required) between the top of the door frame and the wall. Just a couple of things to consider before choosing location.
Finally, at the time of this review, the Iron Gym is available for the same price at Linens-n-Things. If you have one locally, you could save yourself shipping since Super Saver shipping is not offered for this product.

B. RobertsAssembly was a breeze and took about 10 minutes. The piece that mounts to the back of the door jam is plastic so I was a little weary of whether it would hold up well or not. I did a couple slow pullups using the various positions to make sure it wouldn't fall apart on me and then did some reps and it feels pretty solid. I'm 180 lbs and it held fine, and supposedly can hold up to 300 lbs. It has grips and handles for the different various of pullups and chinups, which is what drew me to it over the other types I looked at. It can also be used for pushups, dips (although not very effective as you can't get very low), and situps using the doorway.
Overall, it does was it claims and feels like a pretty good piece of equipment. After a week of regular use it remains solid and hasn't done any damage to the door or wall. I would recommend this product for those who don't want to, or can't, mount a bar.

About Zumba Fitness
The Zumba Fitness Total Body Transformation System includes four DVDs and two toning sticks. Zumba Fitness® is the only Latin-inspired dance-fitness program that blends red-hot international music, created by Grammy Award-winning producers, and contagious steps to form a "fitness-party" that is downright addictive. Since its inception in 2001, Zumba Fitness has grown to become the world's largest and most successful dance-fitness program with more than 10 million people of all shapes, sizes, and ages taking weekly Zumba classes in over 90,000 locations across more than 110 countries.
A fitness instructor in his native Cali, Colombia, the life of Zumba program's founder, Alberto "Beto" Perez, took an unexpected turn one fateful day in the mid-'90s. He darted off to teach an aerobics class and forgot his traditional aerobics music, so he improvised using his own mix of music from tapes he had in his backpack (the salsa and merengue music he grew up with). Spontaneously, he created a new kind of dance-fitness, one that focused on letting the music move you (instead of counting reps over the music). Energy electrified the room; people couldn't stop smiling. His class loved it! And on that day, a revolutionary new fitness concept was born--the Zumba Fitness-Party.
The Exhilarate DVD features a 60-minute dance party workout that torches calories. |
Fast forward to today, the Zumba program is now taught in gyms and studios all over the world to millions of Zumba enthusiasts. And as the program continues to evolve from its humble beginnings, to a global movement, to a way of life--its growth has only deepened the company's commitment to providing accessible fitness, without the strain, without the sacrifice, just the pure joy of a party.

Zumba definitely changed my life. I used to hate working out, but now it's my favorite part of the day. Until I had the courage to start attending a live Zumba class, I had been using Zumba Fitness Total Body Transformation System DVD Set. After 3 years, though, it was a bit boring with the same music and routines. When I saw that they were releasing a new DVD set, I knew I had to buy it.
The set comes with 7 DVDs, a pair of toning sticks, and a program guide.
-------------------
DVDs:
1. STEP-BY-STEP- This DVD breaks down the basic Zumba rhythms: merengue, salsa, reggaeton, calypso, cumbia. belly dance. (Unlike with the older DVD set, there is no step-by-step for samba, which kind of annoyed me because samba can be rather tricky. However, they do cover the basic samba step in the Mix DVD.) The steps are broken down by Gina and Tanya (from the previous DVD set.) You have the option of viewing the moves from both the front and back.
2. ACTIVATE- features a 45-minute workout with Gina and Tanya that applies all the moves learned in the previous DVD.
3. RUSH- a high-energy, 20-minute workout with two different instructors, Kass and Loretta, for when you do not have much time.
4. EXHILARATE- full-length (60-minute) workout with Beto and another instructor, Melissa.
5. RIPPED- 60-minute body-sculpting workout that's split up in two sections. The first is Toning which uses the sticks, and is hosted by Beto and two other instructors, Jani and Melissa. The second is Sentao which features chair routines, and is hosted by Beto and another instructor, Marcie.
6. MIX- features routines from different places and cultures. This DVD is supposed to be more advanced, and is hosted by Tanya and Beto, along with experts from around the world. You have the option of seeing the routines broken down beforehand, which is really helpful because some of the moves are really complicated!
7. FITNESS CONCERT- 60-minute live concert starring Beto and several of the instructors featured in the other DVDs. The concert was filmed in front of thousands of Zumba enthusiasts and has the same songs found in the Exhilarate DVD.
-------------------
PROS:
-- The production quality is AMAZING! I have never seen an at-home workout DVD that even comes close. I always enjoyed the previous DVD set because of the colors. The new DVD set takes things to a whole other level. Everything is vibrant and colorful. There's a definite party feel.
-- The routines really look like music videos. The new DVD set feels more like the experience of a live class. You have the option of turning off the cueing and just listening to the music on each of the DVDs.
-- There's a slew of new music and different routines. You get to "meet" different instructors. In addition to the Zumba staples (merengue, reggaeton, salsa, cumbia, etc.), there are routines that feature tango, swing, axé, hip-hop, etc. The Mix DVD alone if great because it gives the opportunity to learn so many different moves.
CONS:
-- I know the lighting is to help create a visual effect, but sometimes it makes it difficult to see the steps.
-- The Sentao section requires a lot of floor space. You have to be able to walk around a chair. You also need a sturdy chair since you have to do lunges and other things with it.
-- The 1-lb. toning sticks might be too light for some people. There are 2.5-lbs. sticks available, but you have to buy them separately from the Zumba website.
-- Some of the DVDs do not have warm-ups or cool-downs. According to the program guide, you are supposed to do the cool-down found on the Exhilaration DVD, but are you really going to change discs?
-------------------
The best part about Zumba is that anyone can do it. It doesn't matter if you are in-shape or not, as long as you are moving, sweating, and having fun. Not only will you notice a difference in your body, but you will also feel better and more energized. When I started doing Zumba, I was over 200 pounds and had no energy. Zumba gave me a reason to be motivated and enjoy what life has to offer.
Overall, this DVD set has a lot of offer, so unlike with other workout DVDs, you won't get bored easily. The routines are a lot of fun, and you will definitely get a workout. I use this along with Zumba Fitness Total Body Transformation System DVD Set whenever I can't attend a live class.

I have been following Zumba for awhile and tried a class at the YMCA. I found the class a little intimidating because it wasn't a beginner class and of course I fumbled along trying to figure out the steps. I decided I wanted to buy the videos. I researched and found that first set and decided to go to the website. They had this set for pre-order. I decided on this one.
I am so glad I did. All of the complaints about the 1st set has been adjusted in this one. The dance moves are very clear on the intro DVD and you can view from the front or the back. They have also adjusted the other DVDs so you can either do the exercise with or without the dance ques from the instructors. I am very glad that I got this set and can't wait to go back to a class and know what i'm doing.

This review is from: Zumba Fitness Exhilarate: The Ultimate Experience DVD Set (Sports)
I was in my best shape ever when I was going out dancing once or twice a week (in my late 20s)--lots of salsa and belly-dance moves that work the abs without crunches that put you on the floor and kill your neck and back. Times have changed, and so has my figure since I quit dancing. I resisted buying into the Zumba craze for while, ever since I saw the commercial once at 3:00 a.m. for the original set. I hesitated, first because everything looks great on a 3 a.m. infomercial; I figured it was the latest infomercial fitness fad. I've been disappointed by lots of work-outs that promise "dance moves you can take to the club" and then turn out to be nothing but club outfits, generic music, and aerobic exercise moves that would get you laughed out of a club. Then I read the reviews, and it seemed like everyone who had the set started out in the classes first. I've never been to a Zumba class and never wanted to work out in a room full of strangers--thus my reason for buying a home workout set to begin with. The price was also intimidating, and way more than I've ever paid for any of the other "dance party" workouts that found their way into a yard sale. Still, I want to get back into the shape I was happy with, and there were a lot of positive reviews, so I went for it. I did my first workout last night, with the Activate disc, and was sweating immediately. At first I saw a couple aerobics-style moves and thought "here we go again." But those were few, and were incorporated well into the dance routine. Mostly there was actual, genuine, hip-swinging, shimmying, dancing--I actually had a little trouble keeping up. I can see just how rusty I've gotten, and I'll have to work up to going right through the whole disc. Still, time flew by way faster than it does on the treadmill, and this was a lot more fun. I was absolutely sweating more, and my whole body knew I'd been working, but I barely noticed because it felt like dancing and not working out. Some of the moves can be a little tricky, especially when you're trying to keep up with pros. When I got tripped up trying to follow the instructors, I just looked away from them and moved with the music--keeping hips and pelvis in motion. When I needed to catch my breath I just stood front and did hip circles till I could pick up the pace again. I still think the price is a little steep--especially since the little foam plugs that hold the discs in place had already popped off when I got it (it was new and sealed.) But they can be stuck back down with a dot of glue, so no big deal--minus 1 star for price and packaging. The picture and sound quality is very good, and the music is actually enjoyable--not like canned "exercise music" that comes with most workout DVDs. Some of the verbal exchange between the instructors comes off a little cheesy, but overall the mood during the workouts is light and fun. I'm not a fitness guru, have been in a gym once in my life (hated it), and am not using Zumba as a warm-up for, or fun addition to, any other exercise routine. Right now, this new Zumba series is my ONLY workout since my treadmill needs maintenance. I've read a lot of reviews for fitness DVDs, equipment, and supplements, and they often say things like "I use this every day, plus walk 5 miles and do free weights combined with my regular cardio, cut out all soda and junk food, and I've lost 6 pounds!" To me, those reviews aren't very helpful: first, a person who already does weights and cardio daily is probably in pretty good shape and has little to no weight to lose. Second, when you make that many lifestyle changes at once, results of SOME kind are inevitable--and can't be credited to anything specific. Did the workout do it, or the lack of candy bars and soda? To really determine how well this product works for me, I'm going to do Zumba and not change another thing for now. (I already eat mostly low-carb, but I cheat sometimes.) I'll update after a few weeks for anyone interested who is also not in their best shape, but is looking for a way to shed a few pounds and get into BETTER shape--a way that's actually do-able and maybe even enjoyable for the average person. A little time will tell if this is the answer for me and possibly others like me.
UPDATE 6/16/2011: It's been 2 weeks today since I tried Zumba for the first time. I haven't changed my eating habits; I eat exactly as I did before (including 6 oz of mint cookie crunch ice cream almost daily), and I'm not taking any diet pills. I've done the Step by Step disc once, and then only the Activate disc so far. To date I've lost 7.5 pounds, and it isn't water weight--it doesn't fluctuate or pile right back on as soon as I eat solid food(including mint cookie crunch ice cream.) The only explantation is that I'm burning more calories than I'm eating, and the only thing that I'm doing different is Zumba. Any activity or workout that gets you moving fast and sweating hard will do the same thing. Pretty much all workouts work, I know that. I also know that it only works if you actually do it, and if it's tedious, boring, painful--or even largely inconvenient (like going to the gym)--I won't do it, no matter how amazing the results would be. The difference with this is that it's fun enough that I'll actually do it more than once or twice and then give it up. You stay on your feet, not on the floor (like with crunches and pilates). There's no straining your neck, breaking your back, or losing your will to live 10 minutes into the session. You're moving and working enough to burn fat and calories, but it's not so strenuous that you can't make it past the first few minutes. Don't get me wrong, I have moments where I struggle with some of the steps, and on occasion I get frustrated trying to keep up--but I can keep moving, and even better, I actually want to. I don't work for the company and am not already sports-model fit. I'm an average 30-something female trying to get back in 20-something shape (and take off some quit-smoking weight). My reviews are honest because I rely on other people's honest reviews to help me make my own decisions about products here. So, I'm going to keep doing Zumba and try to add some other changes (like giving up my ice cream--so sad) and see how much my results increase then. For anyone interested, I'll put a couple beginner survival tips that helped me in the comments. Good luck.

10 Minute Trainer Tony Horton's Workout for the Busiest People Fitness DVD Program Description
Having trouble finding the time to work out? Turn to Tony Horton's 10-Minute Training system, a series of ultra-efficient workouts designed to tone and trim your body in just 10 minutes per day. Hosted by personal trainer Tony Horton, the workouts take a unique approach to your fitness. Instead of starting with your cardio and then working your different body parts one at a time like most long workouts, Horton stacks them, so you get your fat-burning cardio, total-body toning and sculpting, and ab workouts at the same time. The breakthrough Super Stacking Technique--which employs resistance bands for maximum efficiency--is like multitasking for your muscles. To further boost your workouts, Horton added an easy-to-follow eating plan that helps you lose weight and tone your body from head to toe. The 10-Minute Training system is ideal for everyone from busy moms and dads to CEOs to traveling business professionals.
10-Minute Training Contents:
- Total Body DVD: This workout walks you through just 10 moves in 10 minutes, but works your entire body from head to toe.
- Lower Body DVD: So long, saddlebags. This workout's 10 effective moves will slim your thighs and lift your buns in less time than it takes to check your e-mail.
- Cardio DVD: No complicated dance moves here. These simple kicking, lunging, and punching moves get you in the fat-burning zone fast.
- Yoga Flex DVD: This total-body stretch routine delivers long, lean muscles and leaves you feeling energized.
- Resistance band kit and cardio belt: Maximize the power of super stacking with Tony Horton's pro-grade resistance bands, which include Comfort Flex handles. Tony's power cardio belt adds even more resistance, so you burn even more fat and calories.

I received this last week and have completed all of the workouts. Some critism of two DVD's from another reviewing is noted and while it could have fit on one DVD, how can he charge so much for one, so he put it on two. Bad move, but he's making money. Speaking of which, the price is hefty, but WELL WORTH IT. Yes he stands around and talks, because HE IS YOUR PERSONAL TRAINER with this. Individual training sessions in a gym can cost up to $80/hour. He walks you through and explains the moves instead of doing them so you know you are doing them right. He's fit as can be and focuses his attention on you so you can get the same results.
The enclosed workout schedule offers a mix and match approach from one to three routines matched up daily over 4 weeks with one day off a week. 10 min a day for min results, 2 routines (20 min) for improved results, and 3 routines (30 min) for max results. Bands are optional but included. My doors are old and so I use weights and or omit the bands. This system is perfect for me. I also have his p90x and love it as well, but sometimes don't have the time to do it.
You can increase or decrease intensity based on your needs and that's why I like it. For total or lower body, my strength, I push it. For upper body and abs, my weakness, I rest and use his modified moves that he shows you, and I can still feel it. YOU CAN GROW WITH THIS PROGRAM and that's why it's pretty cool. Busy, one 10 minute workout and you'll feel it. More time, then do two or three.
As usual for most every workout, the warm up and cool down are short, so I always do it twice or just keep going on my own. Also, his Yoga is a combo of simple yoga for stretching and can be done daily as it really improves flexibility. I can't believe I wrote this much about the program after one week, but it got me off my butt and working out again after I moved and have not worked out in about three months. A+ Tony...and THANKS!

Tony Horton's 10 minute trainer is fabulous, and I must say this on behalf of myself and my husband (a person who absolutely DREADS working out in front of the TV).
This 10 minute trainer comes with 5 videos which last approximately 10 minutes in duration. I must let you know that if you plan to do the workout with the warm up (2 min) and cool down (2 min), your workout duration time will actually increase to 14 minutes per segment. The 5 workouts are cardio, total body, lower body, abs, and yoga flex.
Cardio- 10 minutes of agility drills, kicks, lunges, etc. (The program comes with resistance bands with a waist strap that you must attach to the door. It definitely increases resistance! You don't have to use it if you choose not to.)
Abs- 10 minutes with 20 exercises lasting 30 seconds each- This is one tough ab workout. I would compare the level of challenge to Tamilee Webb's I want those abs workout (another tough ab workout)!
Total body- 10 minutes of challenging your whole body to a great workout
Lower body- 10 minutes that incoroporates some use of the resistance band to target those thighs and glutes
Yoga Flex- 10 minutes of yoga poses (Yogis out there might not like this segment since there is very little emphasis on breathing and centering your mind)
I try to fit this in every evening in addition to my 30-60 minute workout I perform in the morning, and it is great. If my husband will do it without a fight, it is worth trying!

I have been regularly exercising for over 30 years. I must say that Horton's workouts are not for beginners. You really have to know what you're doing, and how to modify the workouts for your particular body type, injuries, etc.
As a working mom, there are some days that I cannot get to the gym, or devote more than a half hour tops for working out. I bought this system to supplement my workout routine.
If I only have 10 minutes, I do the 10 minute cardio or the yoga flex or lower body. But 10 minutes is actually 12 or 13, as the clock stops between each move. It also takes a long time to switch back and forth between CDs, which is frustrating.
If I have 30 minutes or so, I do another Beach Body system, such as Yoga Booty Ballet or Kathy Smith. This is because I find their transitions and cueing to be much better, and not as rough on the body.
Finally: while I enjoy the Beach Body programs, I do find their infomercials, which come at the end of each DVD, to be disruptive, loud, and annoying. If I have just completed a yoga workout, I don't want a screaming announcer to IMMEDIATELY come on and try to sell me something. This completely destroys the relaxation that I just worked so hard to achieve.
